About Us

Johnsons Engravers (Now also trading as JEL Signs) was founded in Leeds in 1883 by Harry J. Johnson, a master engraver who originally came from Birmingham. The firm prospered, and Harry Johnson worked in it himself until he reached a considerable age. His two partners then took over and their descendents still run the firm today.

Company Goal

This continuity ensures that Harry Johnson's emphasis on quality, service and craftsmanship is consistently maintained. The quality lies in stylish and meticulous engraving to exacting standards; the service lies in prompt delivery at competitive prices with all work guaranteed; and the craft skills are aquired through training and years of experience.

While keeping its traditional strengths Johnsons has never failed to keep abreast of current developments in technology. Every advantage that computerised production, guided and by skilled engravers and sign makers can offer has been taken, and the most up-to-date machinery has been installed. Yet our non-computerised craftsmanship still flourishes, particularly in the engraving of dies and moulds, where Johnsons' work has an outstanding reputation.

As a company we are constantly trying to better ourselves when it comes to service.  We take pride in being able to keep moving forward ,bring in new people and form new relationships as a business. We pride ourselves on turnaround time and many of our customers often comment on how quickly we can turn jobs around. The quality of the goods speak’s for itself as our staff have many many years experience providing goods to an exceptional standard.

Johnson’s are proud to announce a new member to our team. Lewis joined our team in September 2014 and is studying with Leeds City college in his Engineering - Mechanical Diploma Levels 2,3 & 4.

Moving Forward

In early 2015 we have invested in two new laser machines to meet  increase in demand for laser etching and cutting.
